Liverpool have had a very woeful performance early this season by all standards. This has in the end, culminated into the sacking of the Liverpool coach, Brendan Rodgers. Brendan Rodgers was sacked this Sunday. This was after the 1-1 draw with Everton at Everton’s home which took place on Saturday.
The game was a virtually fruitless one, especially for the Liverpool team. Liverpool got the first goal when forward Danny Ings scored at the 41st minute. Everton equalised sooner at the 45th minute through their forward, Romelu Lukaku. This result ended up placing Liverpool at 10th position on the table.
On Sunday, Rodgers was shown the door after it appeared that he was no longer fit to take the team to the promised land. It is reported that the decision to sack Rodgers had already been reached even before the Everton game. The owners of Liverpool, Fenway Sports Group chose not to reveal this before the match do that it would not interfere with preparations for the match.
Brendan Rodgers is the first Liverpool coach since the 1950s not to lift a trophy in his first three years. Rodgers came pretty close to getting the league title in the 2013/2014 season but they ended up coming second place. Louis Suarez was very important in this season. The next season he was sold and Rodgers was unable to find a suitable replacement. Thus, Liverpool ended up as sixth position in the 2014/2015 season.
Rodgers was cut some slack due to the previous performance of the team in the 2013/2014 season. This season, the performance of the squad was woeful and it has culminated to his leaving of the club.
Liverpool have promised to find a replacement for the coach before the game against Tottenham in two weeks time. Top contenders for the position include former Dortmund coach, Jurgen Klopp and former Madrid coach, Carlo Ancellotti.
