Spanish La Liga club, Sevilla has made history by carrying the Europa League trophy for three Consecutive times with an astounding victory over Liverpool. The match started out as expected with both sides testing each other at the opening stages but it was Liverpool who opened the scoring first through a wonderful curl in the edge of the area by striker Daniel Sturridge. After that goal the game almost looked far fetched for the Spanish side with Liverpool hitting them with everything they had. The English Premier League side also had three penalty claims denied by the referee and ended the first half of the game leading Sevilla by 1-0.

Sevilla, obviously outplayed in the first half of the game came back impressively in the second half and restored parity with just seconds into the game with a goal from Kevin Gameiro. The game continued balanced until Sevilla took control and a fine team play ended up with Coke driving a curling effort far into the Liverpool. Liverpool looked to come back into the game but with just 20 minutes left to play, Coke guided another ball past the goalkeeper in the eighteen yard box. There were initial misconceptions that the Sevilla player was in an offside position but replays showed that although in an offside position he got the ball from a back pass from one of the red’s defenders. At this point, Liverpool’s chances of a silverware and possible Champions League qualification were lost.

Jurgen Kloop’s men put up a good fight for the trophy, but Sevilla proved to be the Champions of the night.

Liverpool are on course to winning their first title under new coach Jurgen Kloop. The reds have improved drastically since the German took over in August/September last year. The road to the final of the competition has not been an easy ride for the reds as they have eliminated notable teams such as Manchester United, Borrusia Dortmund and Villareal. Since taking over the reds last year, Jurgen Kloop has gone on to rebuild the confidence of the fans in the team. Liverpool has now grown to become a threat like it use to be in the last decade, a resilient team at that. That characteristics was on display in their second match against favorites Borrusia Dortmund as they came from two goals down to end the match with a 4-3 victory and 5-4 victory on aggregate thereby eliminating the German side from the competition. It can be said that the players and the coach (the club) has done well for themselves by reaching the finals of the competition.

On the other side of the pitch is Sevilla who have won the competition three times in the last five years and would be looking to win in for three consecutive seasons with a win over Liverpool. Sevilla have always been outstanding in the Europa League and have even made it their maiden trophy with the way they have been winning it. From the start of the competition they have been tipped as the favorites and here we are at the finals.

We would have to wait for tonight to see who emerges victories after what i presume would be an exciting 90 minutes or 120 minutes (extra time inclusive). So here it is people, the Europa League finals and its Liverpool Vs Sevilla.

Napoli got off to a brilliant start in the Europa League campaign as the cruised past their opponents easily. A brace from Dries Mertens and Jose Callejon was enough to see off Club Brugge at the Stadio San Paolo. This would surely relieve new manager, Maurizio Sarri of some pressure because a performance like that would make it easier to forget their poor league start. The first goal of the night came just five minutes into the match through Callejon as the former Real Madrid winger lobbed Sinan Bolat from the right side. He was also involved in the second goal which came just around the nineteenth minute of the game when he whipped a low cross into the opposition’s box allowing team mate Dries Mertens to strike into the net from close range. It only took six minutes for the Belgium international to double his tally as he volleyed a long ball from Jorginho into the bottom left of the post. This gave Napoli total control of the game.

Club Brugge offered no resistance all through the game and Napoli continued pouring in the goals as a fourth came just eight minutes into the second half. This time Marek Hamsik was the one who got his name on the scoring sheet tapping the ball into an open net. Callejon rounded off the scoring with his second goal of the night in the 77th minute, when he beat the offside trap with a well timed run to slot in a clean finish under Brugge’s goal keeper. Club Brugge did score a goal in the match only for it to be ruled offside by the linesman. The result takes Napoli to the top of the table in group D while Club Brugge is left to lick their wounds at the bottom of the table.

Liverpool’s Europa League campaign started with an away match to Bordeaux but their display wasn’t all that different from what we have been seeing them do in the premier league this term. Liverpool took the lead in the second half through a wonderful goal from Adam Lallana but Jussie was able to draw level for Bordeaux. Brendan Rodgers has been criticized for his surprise tactics and he seems to still be in the juggling game as his team reverted to a three-man defense allowing Jordan Ibe and Alberto Moreno to roam the flanks. Another point worth noting was the number of young players who featured for the team with Gomez, Rossiter and Jordan Ibe starting the match while Pedro and Bragnnagan were introduced in the later stages of the game. This influx of young players offers promises for the club’s fans.

Adams Lallana’s goal seemed to have secured all three points for Liverpool as the former Southampton drove in from the left, before curling the ball into the corner of the net. He missed their weekend clash against rivals, Manchester United through injury. Lallana’s technical ability has never been debated but his inability to convert a wonderful display into goal has always been a concern. Last night’s match showed that the young forward still had it in him as he was always a constant threat to the home team before getting a goal to crown his efforts for the night. He is sure to gain a starting berth in Brendan Rodger’s team if he continues to emulate this performance in subsequent matches.
