Athletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has rejected approaches from French club Paris Saint Germain. According to Sky Italia the Argentine is keen on remaining at the Vicente Calderon even after his second European defeat at the hands of bitter rivals Real Madrid.

Diego Simeone has earned the respect and admiration of many for turning the Spanish side into serious European contenders even though they dont spend big in the transfer market. He seems to know what to do to get the players ticking for him. Athletico has come up to challenge the dominance of both city rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona at the helm of the La Liga. Paris Saint Germain in particular are keen on bringing the Argentine coach to Paris in the coming months.

PSG’s owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi  revealed his disappointment at the current state of the club in European competitions although they came close this time but were knocked out in the semi-finals and that raises suggestions that current coach Laurent Blanc would be replaced this summer.

Diego Simeone has called on Athletico’s board to support their rise with more funds to spend in the transfer market. It is unlikely that PSG would let him go without a tough battle but we would see to that in the coming days.

Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit of former player Paul Pogba, offering a British transfer record fee of £60m to Juventus. This is according to the Sun newspaper at least, with the tabloid claiming United’s new manager Jose Mourinho has sanctioned the bid in the hope fellow suitors Barcelona may be caught cold so early in the transfer window.

The Spanish champions are also known admirers of the French international midfielder who left Old Trafford under something of a cloud in 2012, having become frustrated with a lack of first-team opportunities. It remains to be seen whether Italian champions Juventus hold out for a rival bid from Barcelona or another interested party, but should they accept United’s advances, then the Premier League club’s position will be in a position of real strength.

Having won four successive Serie A titles with 23-year-old Pogba in their ranks, the general consensus is that Juventus are reticent, yet realistic, about their man seeking a fresh challenge this summer.

Although he may have felt unloved under Sir Alex Ferguson in his brief stay at Old Trafford as a teenager, rumours suggest the midfield maestro is not hung up about past indiscretions, especially with a new era launching at Old Trafford under Mourinho.

Manchester United supporters will desperately be hoping bygones are just that, as the youngster who forced his way out of the club four years ago has gone on to become a midfield maestro.

Pogba is set for an instrumental role at his home Euros with France, where Les Bleus are contenders to lift the trophy.

Real Madrid superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo has surprised his fans by how he chose to ‘spend’ his Champions League bonus of nearly £500,000.

According to reports from Spain, the Portuguese footballer NEVER touched the money. Instead, he asked agent Jorge Mendes to give the huge haul to ‘the needy’.

Spanish journalist, Pipi Estrada revealed that, before last week’s final, the Real Madrid superstar “had spoken with (agent) Jorge Mendes and asked him to take charge of distributing the money to the needy”.

Three-time world player of the year Ronaldo sparked doubts over his fitness with a muted display in the showpiece against Atletico Madrid in Milan, although he fired the penalty shootout winner.

But any short-term criticism he receives might be overshadowed by the long-term good his donation of 600,000 Euros (£463,000) will do.

The Sun UK reports that “Last year Ronaldo, 31, was third on the Forbes rich list of sporting competitors, reportedly earning £34million from pay and bonuses PLUS £17m from endorsements.

“That total of £51m pipped the £47.5m reputedly accrued by Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.

“But even their combined earnings were eclipsed by two boxing legends, Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao picking up £103m and American Floyd Mayweather £193m.”

Ronaldo has however insisted that none of that matters to him. He won three Premier League titles and the Champions League with United, before taking the Spanish crown and twice more Europe’s top domestic competition with Real.

Brazilian legend Pele has named Barcelona and Argentina forward Lionel Messi as his best player of all time. This is ahead of the Argentine fellow country man Diego Maradona who is sometime painted as the best all time best. Pele made this declaration while also admitting that Brazil’s World Cup defeat to Germany two years ago brought his to tears. Pele was in Milan to promote a movie about his life and he spoke to Italian La Gazzetta della Sport about his favorite players at every point with the Barcelona Lionel Messi topping the list.

The legend is quoted as saying that; “It’s very difficult because there have always been players who have been compared with me [as the best player ever].First there was [Alfredo] Di Stefano, then [Johan] Cruyff, [Franz] Beckenbauer, Bobby Charlton, Maradona and now there is Messi. Leo is the one I like the most — he’s the most complete. Messi is my favourite player, but Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar are also good. They have different styles in a football which has changed.” Pele also mentioned that calling Italian legend Francesco Totti the Italian Pele was correct.

The 75 years old said watching his country beaten by Germany in the World Cup was humiliating, also stating that his son would have seen him cry that day. It is OK to lose but to concede seven goals in the World Cup at that stage is nothing less than humiliating. He said football is a hard game and predicting who would win is a difficult thing. Ahead of Saturday’s Champions League final Pele said he would prefer Madrid wins it ahead of Atletico because of their style of play also adding that the game of football is diminishing because winning is now more important than the beauty of the game.

Former Manchester United forward and Real Madrid star man Cristiano Ronaldo has once again ruled out a possible return to his former club. This is in the light of Manchester United’s possible appointment of his fellow Portuguese, Jose Mourinho. Ronaldo believes that his country man is the best person to bring United back to their glorious days. Mourinho is gradually closing in on a deal to become Manchester United’s next coach as the red devils relieved Louis van Gaal of his duty as coach. The deal is being worked on and Press Association Sports understands that image rights of the Portuguese is currently being worked on. The Red Devils won a record 12th FA Cup trophy under Louis van Gaal but that was not enough to convince the United board that he deserved to stay. Missing out on the Champions League for a second season now is not doing well to the club’s finances and reputation though their revenue statement shows they are still cashing in.

Cristiano Ronaldo said in an interview by a Spanish television “He’s already signed, hasn’t he? I think it’s good. If it’s something United wanted I think it’s good. I hope Manchester United get back to being what they were because it’s an impressive club but in the last years they lacked an identity a bit. And it hurts me seeing United like that because it’s a club that I carry in my heart. I wish Mourinho can carry them back to the top.” The Madrid star has told other clubs to forget about trying to lure him because he is happy to be at the best club in the world. He added: “Right now, yes I am happy and I want to stay at this club. I don’t see any other club that is better than Real Madrid. If you weigh things up there is no better club.

“So all other clubs can forget about me because Real Madrid is the best.”

Spanish La Liga club, Sevilla has made history by carrying the Europa League trophy for three Consecutive times with an astounding victory over Liverpool. The match started out as expected with both sides testing each other at the opening stages but it was Liverpool who opened the scoring first through a wonderful curl in the edge of the area by striker Daniel Sturridge. After that goal the game almost looked far fetched for the Spanish side with Liverpool hitting them with everything they had. The English Premier League side also had three penalty claims denied by the referee and ended the first half of the game leading Sevilla by 1-0.

Sevilla, obviously outplayed in the first half of the game came back impressively in the second half and restored parity with just seconds into the game with a goal from Kevin Gameiro. The game continued balanced until Sevilla took control and a fine team play ended up with Coke driving a curling effort far into the Liverpool. Liverpool looked to come back into the game but with just 20 minutes left to play, Coke guided another ball past the goalkeeper in the eighteen yard box. There were initial misconceptions that the Sevilla player was in an offside position but replays showed that although in an offside position he got the ball from a back pass from one of the red’s defenders. At this point, Liverpool’s chances of a silverware and possible Champions League qualification were lost.

Jurgen Kloop’s men put up a good fight for the trophy, but Sevilla proved to be the Champions of the night.

Wayne rooney scores against CSKA

Manchester United and England captain, Wayne Rooney ended the teams goal drought which was about to extend to four matches with a powerful header against CSKA Moscow to give his team a deserved three points and send them top of group B. The 30 years old latch into a Jesse Lingard’s cross from the right.

United started the game quite well, dominating most of the first half with some decent play but couldn’t break down the CSKA Moscow team. Although United did have a couple of chances but were unable to score any goals and it seemed the Russian side’s game plan was working out well until late in the second half. A Marcos Rojo tackle saw him win the ball on the sideline from his opponent which he squared out for Michael Carrick. The England international did well to throw a long pass onto young winger, Jesse Lingard, which he crossed for his captain to head clear into the net.

It was a goal that got Old Trafford to its feet as the fans could not contain their excitement for the team’s first goal in four matches. And the fact that it was coming from Wayne Rooney made it all the more glorious. Rooney almost doubled the lead later but could not seem to hit the target. The victory sends Manchester United top of their group with seven points from four games, all they need to qualify is a win from one of the remaining two matches. Team coach Louis van Gaal would hope his team would continue scoring as they go up against West Bromwich in the Premier League on Saturday.

After thrashing them an astounding 4-0 in Madrid two weeks back, Diego Simeone’s men just couldn’t cracking down a rather spirit Astana side and that saw the match end in goalless draw. Manchester City displayed a first class first half performance to qualify for the knock out stages of the competition with a 3-1 victory over Sevilla. The Premier League club had to wait till the dying minutes to grab a winner the last time the two met but the case was different this time as the tie was decided in the first half with goals from Raheem Sterling, Fernandinho and Wilfred Bony was enough to give them a deserved win.

Wayne Rooney ended what could have been a third straight goalless draw for the red devils with a header in the 79 minute at Old Trafford. The game between Real Madrid and French champions PSG was also decided in the first half. The only goal came from the substitute Nacho Fernández who had come on to replace Marcelo as the later could not seem to shake off the injury he picked up. PSG playmaker Marco Veratti was also taken off in the early minutes of the game due to an injury.

The biggest winners of the night were Shaktar Donetsk who thrashed Malton an astounding 4-0. The first came in the first half with the remaining three coming in the second half.
